I’m Ansley.
I’m a horticulturist, forager, naturalist, and educator with a background in environmental science and more than a decade of working with plants and teaching outdoors.
My path has taken me from the high desert and mountains of Arizona to the forests and coastlines of the Pacific Northwest, where I co-founded a wilderness school, and now to New England, where I design gardens and am getting to know an entirely new flora.
Plantsley is the name I was given early on in my botanical career. This part of me shares what I’m learning about the world, from botany and foraging to traditional craft and travel. Most of all, my curiosity about the world stems from the many ways people live in relationship with the places they call home.
What I do
My work has always grown from plants, place, and the great outdoors. Today it takes a few different forms.
I design and care for gardens with an emphasis on thoughtful planting, seasonality, and creating spaces that feel alive. My current work focuses primarily on vegetable, container, and perennial gardens, as well as home and commercial interior plant installations.
Horticulture
I’ve spent more than a decade teaching outdoors, from plant identification and foraging to wilderness skills and traditional crafts. I occasionally offer workshops and collaborate with organizations on place-based educational programs.
Education
I use photography, video, and writing to document plants, landscapes, people, and the knowledge that connects them. I’m especially interested in stories about how ethnobotany and traditional craft form relationships with ourselves, community, and place.
